Mass LEAP Youth Poetry Team to BNV

For the fourth year, youth arts non profit organization Mass LEAP is looking for community support, as we send 6 phenomenal young poets to the 2018 Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam Festival in Houston, Texas this July.
Over 80 teams representing communities from around the world will compete in poetry slams, workshop together, share in community panels and events that center the voices of youth! Last year, Mass LEAP took 2nd in the festival tournament. This year, we have an entirely new team of poets, representing our state wide community and are excited to see these individuals work together to create new poems, build with their peers around the world and lift up our community!
This year's team is comprised of Hailey Tran (Lowell), Hannah Parker (Lynn) Tajah Lee (Boston), Victoria DelValle (Boston), Mariama Savage (Boston) and Sydney Bobb (Boston). They are being coached by Mass LEAP Artistic Director & national poetry slam champion Porsha Olayiwola.
The Massachusetts Literary Education and Performance, or MassLEAP, is dedicated to building and supporting spaces for youth to experience the transformative power of their own voices in community with one
another. We exist as a platform for young people, artist-educators and organizers to foster positive youth development through spoken word poetry forums. We facilitate arts learning spaces and build relationships among communities throughout Massachusetts.
Since 2012, Mass LEAP has worked in schools, sponsored the annual Louder than a Bomb MA Youth Poetry Slam Festival, developed youth leadership projects and provided professional development opportunities for educators who wish to use spoken word poetry in the class room as a tool to promote social justice.
Mass LEAP has operated as a 501(c)3 Non Profit for just over a year, has a small staff, relies on volunteers and community friends and continues to seek support as we provide more opportunities for young people to take the lead in changing the world with their words!
All proceeds will go towards providing airline tickets, transportation, room and board for the young people on our team.
