The MASK Prize is an annual competition for young people aged 4 to 25 in Africa, dedicated to celebrating outstanding creativity.
Founded in 2013 by the UK Charity, MASK , over the last 6 years we have achieved:
-More than 6,500 entries from young people across Africa.
-More than 650,000 visitors to our exhibitions at the Nairobi National Museum (Kenya), Saatchi Gallery, Turner Contemporary (UK), and Library of Congress (USA).
-In 2017, we exhibited alongside Phyllida Barlow at the Turner Contemporary.
-In 2018, the Turner Contemporary hosted our Five-Year Retrospective Show.
-In 2019, we presented the ‘Early 21 Century Young African Artists’ at the Saatchi Gallery.
We are proud to have become the world’s leading celebrators of outstanding creativity of young Africans. This year we want to keep building on this momentum and we need your help. We are seeking donations to help encourage and inspire creative excellency in the youth of Africa.

Any donation of any size will make a huge difference to our work. In return we will acknowledge your support in all our publicity materials and you will receive exclusive invitations to our Award Ceremonies and to meet the artists.
WHAT WE NEED:
We have already secured significant in-kind donations from the Saatchi Gallery and Kenyan Media Partners, including the leading national newspaper ‘The Star’ and the number 1 TV channel ‘Citizen TV’.
However, we need to raise £25,000 to make 2019’s competition happen.
Prizes: Secured £2,240. Seeking funding for £5,260
Award Ceremony in Nairobi: Seeking funding for £7,725
Operating costs: Seeking funding for £11,900
Exhibition at Saatchi Gallery: Secured £12,000-worth donation in-kind from Saatchi Gallery
Media and Promotion: Secured £101,000-worth donation in kind from Kenyan media outlets.
WHY IT MATTERS:
Creativity is one of the key drivers of individual and social change. However, access to the arts is either extremely limited or completely absent in African schools. This cuts millions of young people off from participating in the arts, restricting their creativity, their future life opportunities and their aspirations.
MASK Prize seeks to counter that. We aim to give young people in Africa the opportunity to showcase their talents to the world and express their individual creativity. We believe together we can help strengthen the next generation giving them the confidence and inspiration to fulfil their potential.
