Help Mary compete in Abu Dhabi

In October 2016, Mary's medal winning performance at the 2016 WorldSkills Australia National Competition earned her a place on the Worldskills Australia Skills Squad team among Australia’s best young skilled apprentices and trainees.

Mary, along with 17 of Australia’s current National Champions from their particular trade or skill has now been succesfully selected to join the elite *2017 Skillaroos forming part of Team Australia that will go on to represent Australia at the world’s largest vocational skills competition – the WorldSkills International Competition, which will take place in Abu Dhabi in October 2017.

Mary is working tirelessly every day to reach her goal of winning the Gold Medal while representing her country in Abu Dhabi. Often referred to as the Olympic Games for Skills and Trades, the WorldSkills International Competition will see the world’s best trade young men and women, from 76 nations, compete in 50 different categories for the title of World Champion.

To ensure Mary has the best possible chance of winning a medal, she is now taking on an intensive training program and along with her mentors, category experts and a team of dedicated volunteers Mary will train and develop her skills, her decision making abilities and build the resilience needed to compete against the world’s best.

With your help we can provide Mary with the best possible opportunity to achieve her full potential, represent WorldSkills Australia at the International Competition in Abu Dhabi in October and come home with a medal.

ABOUT MARY:
Mary is on a mission – to become the best patisserie in the world! Her ambition is matched by her positive attitude and creative spirit.

She started baking cupcakes and started her own cupcake business at the age of thirteen. Taking inspiration from the TV show Masterchef, Mary began attending food events and French cooking classes.

“It was at these classes I discovered my passion and love for all things patisserie.”

After work experience at a French patisserie, she entered the WorldSkills competition and it was an unforgettable experience for Mary.

“WorldSkills has inspired me to dream bigger and make bolder personal goals. It’s also opened a lot of doors and created exciting professional opportunities as well as making me organised.”

Mary has big plans for her future. She wants to open her own patisseries and launch a worldwide brand whilst also taking on the best competitions, such as the Coupe de monde de la patisserie – the World Pastry Cup – held in France.

*2017 Skillaroos are champions chosen to represent Australia on the world’s trade and skills stage, and help to secure the future of the skilled Australian workforce.

** Australia is currently ranked 12th in the world and in 2017 we aspire to break into the top 10.
