Our amazing and vibrant Aunt, Mary Rains Rogers Combs, needs your help. Mary is courageously battling metastatic triple negative breast cancer- her third incidence of breast cancer.
In 1996 Mary was diagnosed with a cancerous breast tumor and successfully underwent radiation and chemotherapy following a lumpectomy. In 2014 Mary was again diagnosed with breast cancer and received chemotherapy treatments following a double mastectomy. In 2016, after experiencing back and hip pain, Mary received the news from her Oncologist that the breast cancer had metastatized to her lung, spine, skull and legs.
Mary participated in a cancer drug trial in late 2016 that was unsuccesful and she was just deemed strong enough to begin radiation treatments to her skull. April 24th was the first of 5 treatments and following radiation Mary will participate in a new drug trial while simultaneously receiving chemotherapy.
Anyone who has met Mary will tell you that the sparkle in her eye is a constant and that her genuine smile and infectious laughter make her the life of the party. For the past 15 years Mary has shared her joy for life as the MC for "Mary-oke", weekend karaoke at The Golden Crown in Beaverton, OR. And Mary's passion for Breast Cancer awareness has led to her children, siblings, nieces, nephews and friends all participating annually in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure - and many family members have matching pink ribbon tattoos! (Mary's sister Linda is also a breast cancer survivor).
Mary's medical deductible is $3400 and her prescription deductible is also $3400. With the expense of her chemotherapy drugs she will soon be in the dreaded "donut hole", leading to additional out of pocket costs of approximately $1500. Mary has been unable to work at The Golden Crown for 2 months and the restaurant is soon closing, leaving Mary without an income. Her husband Matt works full time to support them while juggling Mary's many appointments.
We ask everyone who knows Mary or is inspired by her story to come together and donate what we can to help cover Mary's medical costs so she and Matt can have one less worry during this difficult time.
