Hello friends and family!

In April of this year, my mom Maryanne was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer, with tumors on both her pancreas and liver.  This type of cancer is both rare and extremely unique to each person it affects. Although slow-growing, these neuroendocrine tumors are difficult to eradicate and are known to return even after removal and chemotherapy. Because of these facts, we could not be more thankful that she is under the care of an outstanding team of doctors at The James Cancer Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. One of these physicians, Dr. Manisha Shah, is regarded as one of the top experts in the United States on neuroendocrine tumors. We feel incredibly blessed to have Maryanne in such good hands.

Currently, Maryanne is undergoing chemotherapy administered orally two weeks out of every month. She is doing well and the doctors are pleased with the progress she has made since beginning treatment. Dr. Shah and her team have told us the plan is to continue this chemo cycle for up to a year before giving Maryanne a two-month "drug holiday." If the tumors continue to slowly shrink, surgery will not be necessary and they will be closely monitored to prevent growth.

Obviously, Maryanne's life has been turned upside down by appointments, blood draws, chemotherapy, side-effects, bills, and some annoying diet changes (sorry, no more sugar!). Her outlook has been positive--she has taken this cross and embraced it. I'm sure that you, like me, are amazed and inspired by how well she is doing and how selfless she continues to be.

We all know what an amazing woman Maryanne is and how much she cares endlessly for all of those around her. Several people have reached out to me and asked how, in addition to prayer, they can help. Maryanne pays out-of-pocket for her health insurance as she is only working part-time. When she mentioned returning to work full-time, the doctors advised against doing so until she is further along in her treatment. As anyone with any sort of medical diagnosis knows, bills can mount fairly quickly.

This GoFundMe page is a way for others to help Maryanne in a way that we all know she would NEVER ask for herself.  The last thing Maryanne would ever want is for anyone to feel obligated, but if you are able to contribute in any way, it would be greatly appreciated. I can't thank you all enough for being such wonderful parts of my mom's life and for continuing to keep her in your prayers.

God bless!
