Mary Beggs' Kidney Fund

Don protégé
After a virus attacked my pancreas last spring, my kidneys shut down. While we started a two week road trip, I ended up spent 10 days in the hospital out of town. Since then, I have been taking dialysis with the hope that my kidneys would recover since it was an acute episode. However, my kidneys are not responding how they need to, and I am being put on a transplant list. While I search for a living  kidney donor (which is significantly more effective than a deceased donor), I am also trying to pay off these medical bills.

Needless to say, after insurance I have accrued $50,000 in medical bills despite some aid from the dialysis clinic. Out of nine bills, I have paid off the four small ones. I still have five bills that I make small payments toward paying off in the very distant future. The debt is causing stress for me and my three children since I am a single working (teacher)  mom.  Keeping stress low is important to my health as my body deals with the dialysis. My three teenagers are also working at being brave during this situation, but are additionally worried about the money situation. They are amazing children.

The sooner I can pay off the debt, the soon this burden will be lifted. I am especially concerned to get this taken care of since a transplant will bring its own expenses. I have a whole team of friends working very hard at helping me get the word out to get a living donor, especially since I have a less common blood type. With the debt issue gone, it would give me more energy and time to focus on the organ donor process.
