Martha Snively's Medical Fund

Several weeks ago my mother, Martha Snively, slipped in her bathroom. She started to experience some soreness and pain in her left hip, but she could walk with a cane and she thought she had just pulled a muscle. What she didn't know was that her hip had a staph infection. This went on for a few weeks until her condition deteriorated until she had no choice but to go to the Doctor. Mom's doctor did not have their own X-Ray machine and there was a miscommunication between her and doctors office and her condition deteriorated further until she was bedridden. Once we got her to the hospital, it was determined that her hip was septic, and she had lost a great deal of bone on the femeral ball and the socket itself. She was admitted to NFRMC waiting for a transfer to shands. She waited another 11 days before the sergery to clean out her hip was finally performed. (she was on IV antibiotics the whole time while she waited). The surgeon put in an antibiotic spacer and put her in IV antibiotics for 2 months after the surgery. My mother was placed in a rehab facility for Physical therapy, administration of the IV antibiotics and pain management. After the IV antibiotics, she has to wait a month, and if she is infection free, she will get a full hip replacement and go back to the rehab facility.
Today the Rehab facility submitted a bill to my mother. She has medicare and Humana, and after 20 days in a "skilled nursing facility" there is a $160.00 per day co-pay. I don't know too many seniors on a fixed income that can afford that kind of co-pay. My mom is on a fixed income, social security, she gets approximately 14K per year to live on. Her total "out of pocket" through Humana for a year is $6700.00. My mother is concerned she will end up having to leave the rehab facility earlier than she should, or that they will not accept her back (after her hip replacement) if she has an outstanding balance. Any help you can give us would be a blessing.
