Mark's U17 Euros & Worlds Fund

  Hiya, I'm Mark Alvares Peres, Scottish U17 & two-time Scottish U20 Men's Sabre Champion and British U17 #3. Thanks to my GB ranking, I've recently been selected as part of the country's team of four to go to Sochi for the European Cadet Championships (01/03-06-03) and team of 3 to go to Verona for the World Cadet Championships (03/04-06/04). I am the only male sabreur training in Scotland to be selected for both events in history.  Competition for spots on the team was fierce this season, with five people meeting the qualification standard for the World Championships. To put this in perspective, previous seasons have seen as few as two making the standard. Despite being part of one of the strongest British teams in recent years, I have received no financial support from either British Fencing or Scottish Fencing at any point since I've started fencing. My parents have sacrificed a huge amount of time and money to allow me to attend the numerous British and European Cadet ranking events, without which I would not have been able to qualify for the championships. I have relied on the generosity of my parents throughout my fencing career and the help of a few individuals like Chris from Claymore CrossFit, who has sponsored me with free PT sessions leading up to Verona because he knows the strain that fencing puts on our family. The two trips are incredibly expensive, with travel to Sochi alone costing over £400. I've worked so hard all season to climb up the rankings and get selected for these events but the price of competing amongst the world's greatest fencers is gargantuan. For all of these reasons, I'm asking for you to support me to fence in these elite events. I will be immensely grateful for any donation, no matter how much, and I will ensure that every penny raised will go towards flights, accomodation, booking fees, entry fees, referee levys and other competition costs.
