An update from Mark's family & a message to others:
If you have ongoing acid reflux, please get an endoscopy.
Mark Salmons was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in August of 2015. Esophageal cancer is a very aggressive and difficult cancer to treat when detected in a later stage. Most often caused by acid reflux, it is easily detected by a simple endoscopy procedure in its early stages. This procedure was never recommended to Mark -- even though Mark repeatedly listed acid reflux as one of his ongoing conditions when he went for doctor's visits and checkups. This has been very hard for the family, knowing this could have been easily prevented. The Salmonses are hoping others who hear about their tragedy will benefit from what they now know about this dreaded disease.
Mark's cancer is at a very advanced stage now and his wife Judy is on unpaid family medical leave caring for him. The family needs help to cover outstanding medical bills as well as help them with daily living expenses while Judy is out of work.
The Salmons family also requests prayers for them during this difficult time. They ask for prayers for direction each step of the way. They also ask for prayers for the Lord to be very present in all the moments remaining they have together. They have felt much support and love throughout this ordeal by the love, prayers and kindnesses of so many.

My name is Tim Titus and Mark Salmons and I grew up together in the small town of Spencer, West Virginia. A town of about 2,500.
After college, our travels took us to the great state of Maine, Mark making buckets and eventually boats. I enjoyed the scenery for a few months and returned home.
Mark stayed and has been a resident of Maine since, raising two amazing boys (Noah & David) with his wife Judy. About a year ago, Mark received the devastating news that he has a rare form of cancer and has been courageously fighting the disease.
Most people who have been raised in West Virginia will speak of a fierceness in pride and resolve of their heritage, of their love for family, and love and support of their friends - which Mark embodies all of these traits and much more. He would be the last person to ask or seek assistance from others, which is why I ask for your support and assistance in his family's time of need.
This GoFundMe campaign is the result of many of Mark's friends and family who have communicated Mark's situation and are too numerous to list here but are the ones responsible for starting the campaign.
