On July 6, 2019, my husband of 30 years, Mark Lackey, suffered a major hemorrhagic stroke at our home. GOD provided that I was there and could call 911. Seeing it happen was very scary and I do not wish that on anyone. He was taken to Ascension Seton Williamson Hospital where Dr. Harper was able to perform open brain surgery to remove 80% of the blood on the brain. He has been in the ICU since and just today, July 25, 2019 was moved to Cornerstone Hospital (Long Term Acute Care Hospital). The goal is to get him well enough to go to rehab and eventually, home. The doctors are saying it could be a minimum of 6 months to a year and he will have some disability from it. We are believing that GOD can do a lot better than that.
He is progressing positively but very slowly. He is doing better than the doctors thought he would. GOD is doing miracles, small ones, but miracles.
He had a tracheostomy to put a trach tube in his throat. He can breath on his own (they are giving him 30% oxygen) but since he is not "awake" yet, they don't know how well he can protect his airway. He also has a PEG feeding tube to get nutrition. He is getting breathing treatments and antibiotics for the pneumonia bacteria that is in his lungs.
He can open his eyes for small amounts of time, but can not communicate yet. He will move his right arm and leg sometimes. His left side has been affected and he has moved his leg and shoulder barely, but not his hand. He has feeling there as he will withdrawal from pain on that side.
Please pray for healing and strength for him. Also, that he will get the right and best treatments medically.
We should receive some long term disability, but it will only be about 60% of his salary.
His medical bills are stacking up and we are still paying on my medical bills from my breast cancer treatments. I am now cancer free!! Praise GOD!!
We have a good support system, and I am hoping to be able to work without taking too many days off. However, Mark does come first. (I am a teacher and will have to go back to work in August.)
