Marisol's Gift of Life

On July 1st, I received a phone call that would forever change my life. A direct match for a kidney had been found for me by Columbia University in New York City. After 2.5 years of waiting, I finally had a cure for my kidney disease, a kidney transplant. The only setback was that as of June, I was no longer in NY but had relocated to California to pursue a living donor kidney transplant at Stanford University. What luck! I had waited for this call for 2.5 years in NYC but when it came, I had already moved to the Bay Area. After a long conversation with my doctor, I realized that I could not allow this kidney to pass me by. So I got on a plane at 6 a.m. and took the 3000-mile flight back to NYC by myself to receive a kidney.
After 2 weeks of being in the hospital, I was finally released on July 15th. However, I will need to stay in NYC for possibly 3 months. This unexpected gift of life has turned my life and finances around. That's why I am asking for help for travel expenses including flight costs for myself and caregivers, hotel costs, a temporary room share, and medication expenses. My medical insurance covers most of the post-op care however, my insurance is registered to California and my medication will need to be shipped from Cali to NYC.
