Marie is an incredible woman.  She is a Mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to so many of us.

She is also a tireless community volunteer primarily involved in providing support for intellectually challenged adults. She has been involved with Reach for the Sky and currently volunteers at The Mission Thrift Store and the Italian Handicapable Association here in Windsor.

For the past three years Marie has been in a fight for her life.  In early 2016 she underwent major surgery.  When all was said and done, she was diagnosed with liver and colon cancer.  Since then she has undergone aggressive treatment in a clinical trial at London Health Sciences Center. Marie has fought this battle with everything she has.  Where many of us would have collapsed under the weight of this all – Marie went to work each day, continued to volunteer, embraced her family and friends and all that life has to give. I suspect that many of you who have been in her company during this time are shocked to hear this.

A December 2018 CT scan indicated that her cancer markers were up.  A need for far more aggressive treatment is needed.  An additional drug must be added to Marie’s chemotherapy regimen.  One of the chemotherapy drugs will not be covered by OHIP.  Marie's oncologist feels strongly that a combination of two drugs are required and will prolong Marie’s life and the quality of the life she lives.

One of these key drugs, is not covered by OHIP or by any other means.  The cost of the drug is prohibitive and ranges from approximately $4,000 to $4,500 per treatment to be administered by IV every three weeks.  As you can see saving the life of someone we love has become very expensive. In addition to this Marie may be unable to work at some time in the course of her treatment.

A scan being performed on January 30 will determine what dose is needed to get Marie through this.  Treatment is scheduled to begin on February 4, 2019.

We are forever grateful for any contribution.  We are hopeful that we can relieve Marie of the financial burden involved and allow her to concentrate on her health and well-being.

We hope this Go Fund Me page will bring awareness to Marie’s situation and ask that you please share this.  No donation is too small.

We all love Marie and need her in our lives. With your help Marie CAN-CERvive!

The Costello and Robinet Families and friends.

Marie has undergone Y90 treatment in London. This took place yesterday and the doctor was very pleased with how things went. Marie will return in 6 weeks for a scan to determine how the treatment is working. We are PUMPED! She's got this. Thank you all for your support.

It has been quite some time since we provided all our generous donors with an update.

Marie has had 42 chemo treatments since July 2016.

The proposed treatment which prompted our Go Fund Me request, (new and additional chemo drugs not covered by OHIP) was very challenging. That change was made and given on February 4 and the result was very difficult. Marie experienced severe side effects from the infusion which left her very ill for more than one month. On Friday March 1 she had a consultation with her chemotherapy oncologist and informed him at that time that she could not withstand another treatment. It appears Marie may have had hypersensitivity reaction to one or more of the required chemotherapy drugs. During that consultation it was determined that another option might be available to her. Her case was discussed by the Multidisciplinary Tumour Board and the result was the recommendation of Y90 embolization treatment.

Marie was then referred by to an interventional radiologist Dr. Amal Mujoomdar who is the head of Diagnostic Radiology at London Health Sciences Centre. Getting a consultation takes time but on April 4 Marie traveled to London for her appointment.

Dr. Amal Mujoomdar has proposed a treatment called Y90. If you would like information, please google this. You will be so impressed! It is a procedure that would attack the tumours from the inside out. This is a treatment that is Health Canada approved BUT not funded. The treatment is very exciting, and we feel very positive.

This has been such an eye opener. For most of us we may never be told that a life saving treatment we need isn’t covered. What a kick in the pants. If you feel inclined, you can view his video explaining everything and maybe write a letter.

Marie has not received a concrete date for the two-part procedure (the first visit the team maps the tumours in her liver and the second visit they insert microscopic beads directly into the tumours). Part two requires extreme precision. She expects to hear something soon and expects that it will take place sometime in May.

We will update you once the procedure has been completed and we have some news to provide. In the meantime, we would appreciate your thoughts, prayers, positive vibes whatever you’ve got to help our wonderful friend in this next step of her fight to beat this damn cancer.

Thank each of you for your love and support.

"and I say to myself - what a wonderful world"!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to all who have supported Marie through donations, prayers and moral support. We are one month into our attempt to help our good friend by relieving the immense financial stress of her much needed treatment. Your support has been incredible. An ask to you all - can you please continue to share this page? We have raised enough to provide eight of the lifesaving treatment Marie needs. Perhaps you helped already - perhaps you meant to and forgot - no donation is too small. Share, share, share for us please.
