Mariah Dalrymple's Medical Care

As most of you may know I have been diagnosed with Chirari Malformation type 1 and will go for decompression surgery October 26, 2016. What you may not know is how bad I've been struggling these last few years. As quality of life continues to diminish I am left with no other choice but to have the decompression surgery. Chiari is a incurable neurological disorder, a condition where your brain is too big for you skull and herniates down on top your spinal cord causing fluid to build up around your brain and spinal cord along with many other disabling symptoms. When I undergo my posterior fossa decompression surgery I will need 24/7 care around the clock for atleast two weeks. I will not be able to move for that period of time. And even after that two weeks is up I will need daily care for a few months while I gain my strength and can walk on my own again. Luckily I have a family who is willing to help care for me and give me all the love I could possibly imagine but that love doesn't pay medical expenses or the home expenses that pile up quickly. During this time my family or I cannot work or make any sort of income. The gas it takes driving to and from John Hopkins daily, rent, medical expenses, home care, help with my young daughter, it all adds up. I have never been one to ask for help or look for a handout but I need to know my family and I are taken care of while they are doing so much to take care of me. Any and all help is appreciated, no amount is too small. If you cannot donate please share! And if you pray, I ask that you keep my family and I in your prayers. I want to thank-you all for taking the time to read my story and for keeping my family in your thoughts and prayers. CHIARI STRONG! ❤ Together we will fight this and one day find a cure! ❤

The decompression surgery- the surgeon will shave the back of my head and make about a 5-6inch incision to remove a portion of my skull and the c1 c2 vertebraes of my spinal cord, will cut thru the top layer of my brain and sew in a large patch allowing spinal fluid to flow freely as it should then remove the herniated portion (the tonsils) of my brain, and finish with a titanium plate to replace my skull and be stitched up.
