Maria's Cancer Battle

The week of July 4th, my mom started experiencing double vision, numbness in her jaw, and so much pain in her back and legs that she could barely walk.  After several weeks of alternating tests and the hurry up and wait game, we learned her brain tumors had returned.  By August 12th the headaches and pain had worsened to unbearable so we made our first trip to the emergency room .  The following week we returned and she was admitted.  After a bone marrow biopsy and several tests, August 25th we finally learned the diagnosis..... Stage 4 Breast Cancer that has metastasized to the bones, lungs, liver and spleen. 

This is not the diagnosis we had expected or hoped for but my mother is ready and willing to fight this with all she has.  At this time she is currently undergoing hormone and chemo therapy, with the potential for radiation therapy in the future.  She is getting stronger every day and will likely be released back to a rehab facility until she is strong enough to be released home.   She will continue to need transfusions and treatment for the rest of her life.

At the current time she is unable to continue to work at Universal Ceramic Tile and knows she can’t fight this battle alone.  We are raising funds to support her with the lost income, increasing hospital costs, unexpected additional medical expenses and ongoing costs for treatment and transportation.  Anyone who has known or loved someone who has fought against cancer knows the extreme impact on all areas of your life; not only financially, but mentally, physically and spiritually.
