My best friend of 25 years has been diagnosed with an aggressive malignant tumor and is in immediate need of help. The good news is that with the right treatment, it is survivable.

Despite enjoying some initial success, Mari’s cancer has suddenly come back with a vengeance, and she needs help once again. With the last round of donations Mari was able to address a crucial amount of her medical bills and get back on her feet, so fundraising stopped. But now she has suddenly found herself needing to change her treatment course. She will be selling everything and surrendering her treatment to MD Anderson. We will be hosting her here in Houston. The only thing she is keeping is her dog and a few household objects. She will need donations to keep her cobra insurance to ensure she gets the best treatment available and so she can act quickly to survive.

TNBC is one of the most aggressive cancers known, and MD Anderson has some of the best treatment innovation and clinical trials. If anyone can save her, this hospital can. She will still see her doctors in Mexico while in traditional treatment.

If you cannot contribute monetarily, you can also donate miles to either delta sky miles #2412396604 or Alaska airline miles 29125836.

About Mari (if you don't know her): Mari Gallion is a writer, musician, and the mother of 18-year-old Oberon, still in high school, who Is earning his AAS degree program at University of Alaska Fairbanks starting in Fall of 2017.   She is known throughout the community as a social justice advocate and award winning journalist.

Her close friends know her as a loyal, generous, hard working, and supportive person who loves children, dogs, music, and spending time in the sunshine and the woods.  Mari is appreciated far and wide for her uninhibited and outrageous sense of humor.

Mari still needs help with her economic recovery from stage 4 cancer!

By now many of you have heard that Mari shifted gears after we initiated care at MD Anderson, and sought a better chance for life than the 2% survival rate she would have faced for starting traditional chemo for stage 4 triple negative breast cancer.

Instead, she sought care at CHIPSA hospital in Mexico, and after 6 months of hard work and expense, she is now in full remission. BUT her battle is far from over:

The cost of treatment at CHIPSA was $45,000, which had to be paid in cash. Mari drained her savings and a small retirement account, and cash advanced maximums on several credit cards in order to pay for treatment. CHIPSA hospital has generously donated additional treatments to further ensure the permanence of Mari's recovery.

Mari needs to continue 6 hours of daily IV treatments three times a week for 3 months as well as four weekly injections (some of which make her sick) along with Gerson protocol, which requires fresh organic foods. These combined treatments impair her ability to work. She has also developed a chronic back problem due to spending so much time in bed, which hinders her ability to perform basic tasks such as cleaning, cooking, and climbing stairs. She is seeking treatment through chiropractic and ROLFing, and we expect a full recovery from the back problem.

Edy and I are offering room and board to Mari through these next 3 months, but she pays her own credit card minimums, doctors, pet expenses, storage space, cellphone, and cobra. Her monthly expenses for this alone are $2000 a month.

Mari spent $56,000 on medical care in 2017. In 2018, she has already spent more than $10,000.

Mari currently has no income.

While we are certain Mari would be granted a bankruptcy, she risks losing her only asset--her house--because she rented it for 3 years when she left Alaska to seek treatment and is not living in it. Additionally, it is extremely dangerous for a cancer patient to have no access to credit, as uncovered medical expenses are certain to arise. We aim to keep her out of bankruptcy until she is able to work, at which time she will be able to negotiate credit balances or seek debt relief.

If Mari has ever written a profile on your business, supported your business or creative endeavors, treated you to a meal or glass of wine, or has helped you in any way, please consider donating or spreading the word to help ensure she can make a comfortable transition back into independent life. Every little bit helps.

Thank you, and God bless.
This is one day's worth of treatment supplies.
