Medical Fund for Mighty Marcus

Donation protected
Hi Everyone, I am Norma and I have dear friends going through every parent's worst nightmare - a kid with cancer.  Let me tell you about them and about this kiddo.

Leslie and Ludger Hacault are the proud parents of 10 (yes, I said TEN) children.  Leslie is a veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces, and Ludger continues to serve in the CAF at the base in Kingston, ON.  They are one of the nicest families I know and their children have inherited their parents' kind and caring spirit.

On 3 June 2016, Leslie and Ludger received devastating news.  They took their four-year old son Marcus to the hospital because he was experiencing pain in his abdomen.  After several tests, they were told that Marcus has Stage IV High Risk Neuroblastoma.  This particular cancer is very rare in Canada, with only 50-60 cases each year.

They and everyone around them were heartbroken by this devastating news.  And then, they and their small church community and a group of caring friends and family rallied around them to provide support to their family so that they could focus on "Markie's" medical treatment.  Being from Manitoba and not having family in Kingston, this support has meant the world to this family.

Since diagnosis, Mighty Marcus has endured many medical procedures and treatments thus far.  These include biopsies, bone marrow aspirates, scans, transfusions, multiple rounds of chemotherapy, a stem-cell harvest in preparation for bone-marrow transplant and extensive surgery.  Marcus still has a long way to go to clear him of cancer.  With the love of his family, community and complete strangers, I believe we can get there.

I am appealing to you, my facebook friends and the wider facebook community to contribute to a fund to assist this family with the extra expenses they are facing.  Leslie and Ludger do not feel that they can express their gratitude sufficiently to do justice to the generosity that they have benefited from thus far. In their words, it is hard to accept the help, but help me show them that we are all thankful for the opportunity to help in whatever way we can!

The funds will be used for:

- DFMO treatment in Michigan (here is an article about the treatment: http://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapids/index.ssf/2015/06/study_targeting_deadly_childre.html)

Any surplus funds will be donated to pediatric cancer research in Canada, which is grossly underfunded in our country.

Please share with friends and family.  Thanks so much,

Norma, xo
