Mara's fight against cancer

Last August, Mara tripped in a parking lot. She felt tremendous pain on her hip bone. We thought it was just an injury, and that the pain would soon fade. The pain seemed to get better when she rested, and hurt when she was active, so we thought nothing serious of it. When the pain did not go away, Mara went to a family doctor, and was prescribed pain medicine. Still, nothing major. Thinking the "injury" only necessitated a massage, Mara went to a chiropractor. Such chiropractor recommended she got a X-ray done. The results came out and -"there was something"- The chiropractor ordered a MRI, which showed a mass on her right acetabulum suspected to be metastases from a previous breast cancer diagnosed in October of 2010.
Our family was skeptical and worried. We thought the doctors were biased because of her cancer history, plus her pain had just been triggered by the tripping. Mara made several appointments with different doctors, but ultimately landed at the care of Dr. Gonzalez, who ordered a surgical biopsy of the mass on her hip bone. The mass was malign. Metastases from her previous cancer. Mara is receiving Image Guided Radiation Therapy and Denosumab and Goserelin acetate injections, as well as taking Letrozole and iBrance. She is under constant care with her doctor and getting her blood tested regularly. Her pain has improved, but has not disappeared. We have been truly fortunate on how everything has occurred. She is getting the treatment that she needs, and her outlook is as bright as her. However, bills keep pilling up, and we are unable to keep up while two of our children are in college. If you know Mara, you know that she is always smiling. Even through all this, she has never stopped being kind and mindful of others. You may even find her dancing to a tune in the grocery store. She has not stopped nor will she stop.
