Mama's story

Donation protected
This is Mama's story.

Mama was brought into the Animal Shelter of Chesterfield, SC with her puppy.  She was very timid, scared, heartworm positive, and suffering from mastitis. Her puppy had to be taken away and bottle-fed because she could not care for it.

The volunteers and vets at Chesterfield Animal Shelter cared for Mama and her puppy.  She was given a second chance and was soon on her way to a home.  The time had arrived for her to have her freedom walk! But she was still so scared.  She couldn't walk.  So her adopter carried her.  On a Tuesday, some days later, Mama started showing signs of being sick. By Friday.....she was gone.
Over the weekend, the shelter has learned that Mama died from Distemper; something that could have easily been prevented had the original owners vaccinated their dog.  Furthermore, all of the rest of the animals at the shelter could be at risk.  The shelter does all that they can to vaccinate and treat all of the animals that they take in. But they need help. Your help.

Right now the entire shelter is under quarantine.  That means more time for those animals to be homeless.  That means more time and money spent on testing, cleaning, and preventing the spread of this infection.  The staff is doing all that they can.  They have contacted everyone that has adopted an animal from them and all of the people that are fostering animals.  Resources are being stretched.  Most of these animals have been neglected and mistreated. They've gone through so much and now they are in jeopardy again.

They need our help.  Every donation helps.  It helps buy blankets for them to cuddle in; food and treats for them to eat; and most importantly, medical treatment that they desperately need.

Mama was so close to being safe.  Please help us make sure that no other animal has to suffer from a preventable disease.  Donate $1. Donate $5.  Donate whatever you can.  Every little bit helps a pet get a step closer to having a home.

Time is of the essence. Please donate now.  Donations won't just mean something for the volunteers and fosters of the shelter.  This isn't just another story.  This is Mama's story.
