HELP!

Our dear friend Laura Totson, owner of Malibu Riders is in need of immediate assistance due to the devastation caused by the Woolsey fire.  The fire burnt through her beautiful pasture that houses 21 horses leaving them cooped up in small muddy stalls. As well as all three of her trail locations used to give guided tours in the National state parks (Paramount Ranch, Malibu Creek State Park, Zuma Canyon). With no indication on when they will be safe to ride again. As a result she has lost her business. Without any insurance coverage Laura is now left with no source of income for her and her son, 21 horses to feed and care for, repairs, and 15 employees she can no longer afford to keep. Her house didn’t burn, but she still may loose it.

For over 25 years Laura has been giving guided horseback rides and is known as a staple in our community for opening up her home to family, friends, and strangers. Right now we are asking for anything at all to help them survive and get back on their feet. Such as, a monetary contribution, hay, manual labor, equipment for rebuilding, etc. Please support us in helping Laura as she has done for so many others.

This weekend we were able to visit some of the trails where we regularly ride for the first time since the fires. It simultaneously broke our hearts & filled them with hope. While everything in sight is burned and barren, there is new growth, reminding us that we can rebuild, especially with all of the love & support we have received from you guys.

Donations have reached over $500! Because of the generous supply donations, we were able to lower our fundraising goal. We are so thankful for everyone who has helped us during these past few weeks. Money, hay, supplies, and time have been donated and we couldn't be more appreciative. This beautiful weather and lack of wind has allowed us to start cleaning up the pasture in preparation for rebuilding. Thank you to all who are making this possible, and we hope to continue the momentum of helping others in the time of need!

As we begin to receive donations we want to take a moment to thank those who are offering both monetary support as well as their space, time, and energy. Pierce College generously allowed our horses to stay on their campus so we could keep other displaced horses in our stalls. We have also had daily volunteers helping maintain our corrals and walk our horses since they are unable to get their energy out in the pasture or on the trails.

Your kindess reminds us what an amazing community we have and why we got into this business to begin with.
