Making Music in Mexico

Music is one of the wonders of the world. Whether it be listening to it or playing it, it has managed to change the lives of millions of people. From personal experience of teaching a child how to play music and seeing them evolve to become a more confident and focused individual, I believe that playing music should be something that everyone should have access to, no matter what situation or financial standing he or she is in.I was compelled to found this fundraiser because of the great improvements that I saw through my flute student Alex after teaching him how to play the flute. About one year ago because he could not afford to buy musical supplies, I was able to raise enough money through GoFundMe to buy him a flute, a music stand, and music books. After a few months of playing, I could see right away that he became a lot more focused and confident in his abilities to make music whereas in the beginning he always gave up before trying to attempt to overcome his hardships. Music, even according to his mother, helped him not only behave better, but to also be happier. Even with his financial background, he was able to experience the joys of music and therefore benefited from it greatly. His success helped motivate me to want to spread my love and passion for music to an even wider range of children.
The money from this fundraiser will go to providing musical instruments and supplies to the children who reside in an orphanage in Tijuana, Mexico. For years, Global Youth Mission, a non-profit organization, has been providing the children there with both educational opportunities and supplies that are needed. As a member of this club, I believed that playing music was another opportunity that could be offered to the children there , not only as a fun activity, but also as a way to open their eyes to the magic of the music world. With the money raised from this fundraiser, not only will they be given recorders, but they will also be given stands and handmade music books to be used when we teach them their first notes when we go visit them in September.
