Making James a Teacher

Donation protected
James Jumaa Kitsao is the youngest of 8 children born to a farming family in Kalifi County, Kenya. He worked hard throughout his childhood, often walking barefooted to his primary school, having had no breakfast. He remembers missing parts of his early education because he could not pay the school fees. Despite these difficulties, James got involved as much as he could and excelled both in school and in extracurricular activities such as debating club and scouts. In 2010, he achieved high marks in his primary exams and moved to Mombasa county to live with his older brother. His hope was to join a high school and further his education, however, due to a lack of funds, he could not. He got a job in a grocery store and started saving, but it would take him years to make enough to start school. This is when he met Harrison. Harrison had just started Barnabas Children Centre, a school and orphanage created to give children an education, despite their financial status. James started to volunteer there, finding joy and purpose in teaching the children. He wrote poems and songs for them to recite, and stepped in as a parental figure, listening to the children's worries. After two years as a volunteer at Barnabas, James received donations, allowing him to go to high school. He again showed astounding levels of enthusiasm and achieved high grades. He was then invited to join Kenyatta University to study Education Arts. He is now in his penultimate semester of study, his course finishes in August 2018. He is so close to achieving his dream of becoming a qualified teacher. After he graduates, he will return to Barnabas as proof of what can be achieved, and begin teaching and inspiring the children there. James' goals for after university are: I. Get a well-paying job and become financially stable. II.Raise the standard of teaching at Barnabas School. III.Build his parents a better house. IV. Build an orphanage and school on his family's farmland in Kalifi. James has great potential to be an influential role model. His main wish is to 'show children of Kenya what can be achieved if they trust in themselves and try their hardest.' He is currently struggling with his university fees and living costs. Education fee per semester: 48000 Ksh (Estimated £340/$480) Rent per semester: 15000 Ksh (Est. £105/$150) Living cost for 3 months, including food, gas, power bills: 20,000 Ksh (Est. £140/$200) He has so far been relying on the kindness of a donor, however, that donor is no longer able to support James. Without support, James will not be able to maintain his bills, and will not graduate in August 2018. The amount you would spend on a cup of coffee could go a long way for James, he is so grateful for any support you can give him. Our goal is to raise £1000 (140,000Ksh) this will be more than enough to get James through his last semester and give him some support afterwards. So please donate and share! I will keep all donors up to date with James' inspirational journey. Thank you for listening, and thank you for any support you can give, whether it is financial or social (in the form of a share).
