Hello,
My name is Phile Govaert. I am 15 years old. In the Netherlands, where field hockey is the national sport for both men and women, I learned to play field hockey at an early age. I played regional boys' field hockey competition on the highest level for my age group before coming to the U.S. with my family four years ago.
In the U.S., field hockey is a female dominated sport and it is hard for men and boys to find opportunities to play. Still, with a bit of creativity and lots of enthusiasm and support I have been able to play field hockey all year round.
As a result of my performance at the 2017 National Indoor Tournament, I received an invitation to train with the Men’s Junior National Team.
As you may guess, this incredible experience does not come without a price ... The National Team practices are primarily held at the U.S. Olympic Training Centre in Chula Vista, California. Because of the frequent training sessions throughout the year, transportation and lodging can be very costly.
The funds raised in this campaign will help support my ability to participate and be a part of the training squad in hopes of ultimately be selected to join the (Junior) National Squad.
Any little bit helps and I am extremely grateful for any support throughout my journey.
