Make Robyn Healthy Again

Meet Robyn

Robyn is facing a major fight and needs our help to fund a surgery to make her healthy again!

For those that are not lucky enough to personally know Robyn and Anthony (her husband and my amazing cousin), they are hard-working, loving Christians who would undoubtedly give you the shirt off their backs if you needed it. We hear that saying often, but I promise you, this is true of Robyn and Anthony.

I first met Robyn twenty-six years ago when she was dating my cousin, Anthony. They have now been married eighteen years and have a smart, active, and loving eleven-year-old son. Life has not been easy on Robyn. In high school she was diagnosed with Lupus and Sjogren’s syndrome. What does that mean? Well, both are painful autoimmune diseases. Lupus attacks the skin, joints, and organs while Sjogren’s attacks her glands. If you have ever been dehydrated, you can relate in a small way with Robyn. Now imagine that feeling ALL OF THE TIME, 24/7 on top of what is similar to arthritis in all of her joints! That is just horrible! Robyn’s body has been fighting itself for so many years and instead of complaining, she attacks back with a positive attitude and a determination to enjoy her life.

Robyn’s Fight

If we are being honest with ourselves, we are all extremely critical when looking in the mirror. We all struggle with what we consider imperfections and imagine ways to change them. This was also true for Robyn. Last year she decided to have breast augmentation surgery, and in true form, Anthony supported her decision 100%. Several days following the surgery Robyn was rushed to the emergency room with a ruptured colon. She immediately underwent surgery to repair her colon and as a result required an ileostomy bag. After weeks in the intensive care unit and many return hospital stays, we are all so thankful to our Lord Robyn is with us today.

Normally, a reversal surgery is performed as soon as the patient’s colon has recovered. However, Robyn was recently denied a reversal surgery to repair her colon and several hernias by her insurance company only two days before her scheduled surgery. The insurance company claims that the reversal surgery is not medically necessary and Robyn can live with the ileostomy bag. But Robyn’s doctors assert that she does need this surgery, which is medically necessary.

After recently talking with Robyn and Anthony, it became clear that I had to do something. They need help! Robyn’s health is deteriorating and she desperately needs this surgery. As you can imagine, this has been a financial disaster for them. In this case, the insurance company is 100% wrong! We need to listen to the medical experts!

Deteriorating Health

Robyn was recently diagnosed with Stage III Kidney disease with a GFR (Glomerular filtration rate) of 53 after having the ileostomy bag for only one year. What is a GFR? It is the measurement of how your kidney is functioning. When she left the hospital in October of 2017 her kidneys were fully functioning with a GFR of 110. In just one year, her kidneys have lost half of their ability to function! Robyn is quickly approaching kidney failure and will ultimately require dialysis among other treatments.

The kidneys are not the only cause for concern. Both her Lupus and Sjogren’s levels are now highly elevated and require expensive medications. Robyn struggles to get enough nutrients to remain hydrated. She is fatigued and suffers from debilitating joint pain daily. Playing in the park with her son or taking their dog for a walk is too much for Robyn.

All of her recent medical setbacks and worsening health resulted from the colon rupture and her incomplete healing.

We all deserve the opportunity to live a happy, healthy life. Robyn needs our help and allowed me to post her story only after exhausting all other avenues. She is a mom that cannot be as involved as she deserves to be in her son’s life, which also significantly affects him. Her eleven-year-old boy wants and needs his mom. When you have endured financial ruin as Robyn and Anthony have, it most certainly takes a toll on your marriage. Robyn is increasingly depressed that they are not the family they were, and her disheartened spirit has affected Anthony as well. At this point, they have given it up to God to get them through this and find a way out. Please prayerfully consider joining my husband and me by donating to make Robyn healthy again.
