I was born into poverty. The life I’m living now wasn’t meant to be mine. I was born in Sri Lanka and put into an orphanage, like so many other children, amidst a civil war. We had no access to safe and clean housing, health care, healthy food, clean clothing or an education.
When I was 4 months old I was adopted by Australian parents, and grew up in Australia, with access to all the things that all the children in the orphanage would not have had.
This year, for the first time since I was adopted, I’m heading back to Sri Lanka and I want to donate as much money as I can to the orphanage, so the children there can have access to food, water and clean clothes, all the basic necessities that we all take for granted on a daily basis.
To put things in perspective, $1 AUD is equivalent to 120.21 Sri Lankan Rupee (on Jan 9th 2018, according to Google). The cost of Milk is approximately $1.30 AUD, bread $0.53 AUD, 1kg of white rice $0.71 AUD, monthly utilities $70.00 AUD, pre school/kindergarten $45/month AUD. Your donations don’t have to be big to make a big difference for these kids.
