Maisie's Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary!

4 yr old Maisie is obsessed with saving the monarch butterflies!

Maisie is trying to make our garden a monarch butterfly sanctuary.

I am super proud of this child and her very first foray into environmental activism!

She saw the North American Butterfly Association site on a video &

is dead set on becoming a member and having a sign in her garden.

I had to do a fundraiser for this kid and her hobby.

Butterfly certification is pricey.


We've grown milkweed and other flowers (lavender, mints, salvia,
onions and other allium, parsley, kale, violets, and a willow) and have at least 4 monarchs currently in residence.

Milkweed flowers smell similar to lilacs, but many cities have
ordinances against them.

Because these native plants are considered weeds, they are being
treated as an invasive species... but
Monarch butterflies NEED THESE plants to live, thrive, grow.


If anyone has butterfly friendly plants in their gardens that she can add to it, please let me know.

I have plenty of plants to trade as well!


We will also be posting photos that she takes using our phones of her
current butterfly garden, this kid loves nature photography.

I have not been able to garden like I used to, due to the pulmonary
embolisms I had last year- even though I am recovered, I have a difficult time breathing in the humid heat.

Now that it is cooler outside, I plan on helping her achieve her dream.

All monies earned will go into her garden and supplies and the certification memberships and signage.

We also welcome donations of mulch, help in the garden, and anything else you can think of in lieu of cash.
