Midcoast Advocacy (www.midcoastadvocacy.com) is a for-profit sole proprietorship managed by Maine special education advocate Buckley J. Hugo.
In our eight years in business, we have found that many of Maine's children with special needs are falling through cracks in the system. Their families either can't afford attorneys and advocates or don't qualify for services through non-profits.
The purpose of this GoFundMe campaign is to raise funds for families in need during the fall of 2016 school year. Normally it takes a good ten hours of advocacy work to achieve meaningful results. We have agreed to cut our rates by a third to make this happen for five qualifying families. Any funds raised in excess of $2,500 will be used for additional qualifying families at $500 a piece.
I cannot stress how important an initiative this is. School districts have enormous resources at their disposal and parents can be easily intimidated. Your contribution will greatly benefit those families and students in need.
(As a side note, one school district attorney has complained that the cartoon depicts school districts as the devil. To be clear, it's a cat and mouse).
