An Update:
Our Agnes Gray Elementary School Outdoor Classroom Initiative seeks to offer alternate settings for learning as a way of increasing engagement that leads to academic success and builds resiliency. Many of our children suffer from adverse childhood experiences. As a result, they live with toxic stress that affects their academic, social, and emotional development. At Agnes Gray, we are committed to building resiliency so that children acquire the skills they need to recover from setbacks and to bounce back from adversity. We build resiliency by providing supportive and caring relationships, high expectations, and opportunities for students to connect with their natural surroundings. Our outdoor classroom initiative embodies many of the hopes and dreams we have for our students and their families.
At this time, our outdoor classroom has been built, our orchard planted, and our garden beds ready for spring planting. The next phase of the initiative involves designing and building a 1.5 km trail in the woods behind our playground. This loop will provide opportunities for our students and the West Paris community a place to hike, run, or snowshoe both during and after school. We are seeking $3000 to build the trail and our hope is to have it completed before winter. Please help if you can.
