Project: Magic for Inner-City Youth

Donation protected
Hi! I'm Evan Morgan and I’m a magician from Winnipeg Manitoba Canada. I’m raising money to teach a unique magic program to inner-city youth.

The Problem.
1 / 5: The number of Manitoba children living in poverty conditions - one of the highest rates in Canada.

In addition, Manitoba has Canada's highest proportion of foster children 14 years and younger in private households.

In either case, these children have limited access to recreational activities and learning opportunities that many of us take for granted. I knew there was something I could do! Thus - Project: Magic for Inner-City Youth Was Born!

Why Me?
After seeing David Copperfield on a TV special at age 7, I joined a local magic club called the Society of Young Magicians. In the 16 years since, magic has created many possibilities for me. The skills the art of magic has taught me, like public speaking, stage presence and thinking “outside of the box”, have allowed me to succeed in all areas of my life.

The Magic Program.
During my time in university, I created a unique magic program that I taught to children aged 9-13 through several organizations and day camp programs in Winnipeg. Over the course of 3-5 classes, children learn everything there is to know about magic. The majority of the classes involve these young magicians learning a variety of magic tricks and then performing in front of an audience of family and friends on the last day of class. My program aims to build self-confidence, public speaking and teamwork skills through the medium of learning magic tricks.

Every time I have taught this camp, parents have contacted me saying how magic has been a confidence booster for their child at family gatherings and school.

The Opportunity.
I want to bring my magic program to Winnipeg’s inner-city youth. I partnered with Macdonald Youth Services - an organization that fosters hope and opportunities to empower children, youth and families throughout Manitoba. I will be teaching eight foster children in the Alternative Parenting Homes program.

The Funding Requirements.
Here's where I need your help - the expenses required for me to fund my project are about $50 per child, or $400 for all 8 children. The majority of this cost pays for the magic props the children will keep while the remaining amount covers any promotional and travel expenses to help spread awareness about the campaign.

The Ultimate Goal.
Now here’s the exciting part - any amount raised over $400 will be donated to Macdonald Youth Services’ Education Trust Fund which will gain interest and has the possibility of being matched financially by Manitoba Scholarship and Bursary Initiative (Foundation).

The Vision.
My vision is to provide a unique opportunity to under-privileged youth as a foundation to make positive life choices today and in the future. This is your chance to change the lives of these children in more ways than one. Please help my vision come true. Every dollar counts!
