Make Maddie's Dreams Come True

This girl is #MadStrong

On January 9th, Mads was rushed to Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C. where we learned that she has an inoperable tumor on her brainstem. This news came out of nowhere...Maddie was an active five year old one day and unable to move her left side the next.

Maddie had multiple scans as well as a biopsy of the tumor, a procedure that few surgeons are willing to perform. On January 18, Maddie and her family received the news that the results of the biopsy are consistent with stage 3/4 DIPG. Mads is working each day to overcome the aftereffects of the biopsy as well as the symptoms of the tumor pressing on her nerves.

Maddie has three devoted parents. Her Dad, Nate, and adoring sister, Payson, live in Woodbridge. Maddie's Mom, Jessica, and her husband, Will  (Maddie's other Dad) live in Herndon. They have shown so much strength and have been laser-focused on their daughters. All three parents work full-time. Jessica and Will are federal government employees and were furloughed/working without pay when they began this journey. Nate's employer has been extremely compassionate and understanding and has agreed to let him telework. Basically, these three parents are juggling A LOT and are under extreme stress.

Payson has been the most devoted sister and inspires everyone she meets. She has incredible love, patience and understanding for her sister. She is a courageous big sister and Mads loves her dearly. We want to make sure Pay is taken care of during this journey.

Maddie was able to return home on January 21st.

On January 24, Maddie completed her first of thirteen radiation treatments  she will receive over the next three weeks. She was so brave and went through the procedure without sedation or complaint. Radiation will be finished on February 11. We are hoping that radiation will shrink the tumor thereby reducing symptoms so she can live life to the fullest, including celebrating her sixth birthday on February 17th. Maddie's medical team expects that the tumor will resume growing after radiation.

In addition to assisting with medical bills and childcare, donations will also be used to assist with travel expenses for treatment, fulfilling  Maddie's dreams, and allowing family to make the most of every day.

The most important part of healing is attitude. Maddie most definitely has attitude. Let's help her keep it. Mads has shown incredible courage in the face of this scary diagnosis.

She'll tell you herself...she is a Total Badass.
