Maci Grey

One of the best days of our lives took an unnecessary dramatic twist.....

I have hesitated for two weeks in telling our story hoping that they people who wronged us 12 hours after our newborn Harlee was born, would do the right thing and correct their wrongs! But tonight after a very disappointing phone call we have come to realize  that the truth doesn’t always win!!

Novemeber 2nd....our family surrounded our 12 hour old baby with complete excitement and joy! Our 12 and 15 year old girls were so excited to hold and welcome their new little sister into our world! It was such an amazing morning! And happiness filled our hospital room! Harlee was an IVF baby and wasn’t a easy pregnancy so this was our pure little miracle! I was still extremely medicated seeing that I had just had a c-section less than 13 hours before....and was fighting off pain from the additional complications I had faced during process, when I received a call from Garden State Veterinary Hospital....they had received our Great Dane, Maci Grey from Green Leaf Day Care where she was playing for a half a day of care while we were in the hospital.....Maci was showing signs of a life threatening situation....bloat. Bloat is where a dogs stoamch turns and twists and was putting her at risk of dying within a few hours.
I received this information in front of our kids and my sister in laws.....and there was no holding back the tears to hide the horrible news from everyone in the room..... I immediately started to cry...holding onto my stomach and stitches to try and stop the physical pain.

DR.ABED  from Garden State Veterinary Hospital...told us what need to be done to save Maci’s life...but she wouldn’t touch Maci untill we gave her 75% of $7000 which would be the HIGHEST cost of the surgery-worst case scenario...and if we didn’t have it  “well we can just put her down” (her exact words)....OF COURSE we didn’t/don’t have it!! I couldn’t even try and find it with how medicated I was! I plead with Dr. Abed that we wanted to save her life but I physically couldn’t even find the money under my condition. I told them we had a $1000 savings that we would give them to get started with her surgery but based on being in the hospital we needed some time to figure how to get them the rest! The response GSV gave us was...NOPE a $1000 won’t cut it, but we could put her down for a price close to that! .....Or she would just die on her own....alone. At this point everyone in the room was now aware of our two choices with our 9 month old Great Dane and our kids who a few minutes before were beyond happy! NOW are sobbing uncontrollably...we were away from our sick puppy who was in a hospital with a doctor who saw her as price tag!
The incompassion and lack of understanding from Garden State Vet was indescribable!!! Our conversations continued with them for the next 20 mins, in which they held us emotionally hostage by saying basically give us the money or let her die...there was no working with us and there was no compassion. We sadly had to beg and borrow the money on a family members credit card in which has to be paid back by the end of December. And to add to the pain...Garden State said the bill would be $5000 if it was BEST case scenario which we were thrilled to find out was the case after Maci came out of surgery! YET when we went to pick her up they told us the final bill was now $7000....they inflated the estimate to collect the highest fees with no explanation. When we confronted the hospital on numerous occasions, even meeting with the DR. SCAVALLI the Director of the three hospitals...trying to explain we don’t even have $5000 HOW would we come up with $7000....also explaining to him how his team had treated us while we were bring our child into the world.... The first words out of his mouth were very telling ... “I have 15 mins to speak to you cause I have clients who have been waiting to meet with me for months so make this quick.”

This story can go on for pages....but I can’t write all the pain that we experienced that day or you will read for hours....GARDEN STATE VETERINARY HOSPITAL TAKES ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE AT THEIR WEAKEST MOMENTS! Look up their reviews! There is 100’s of them! They stole from Harlee’s day! I have waited my whole life to bring a child into this world and my memories were stolen thanks to the lack of compassion or consideration for or situation!

We are asking for help ....and we are embarrassed that we have too...but I am out on maternity leave and we just spent the last of our savings to pay $1000 towards her bill on top of the money we have borrowed on someone else’s credit card! This is such a HUMBLING experience cause asking for help is not within our character. BUT we truly have no choice.

Any help or support you can offer to help us with Maci would be beyond appreciated. NEVER GO TO THIS VET! We have contacted the media to also share our story!
