Timothy's Hope!

Donation protected
On June 4, 2006 Timothy Jonathan VanderPyl was born 2 ½ months’ premature weighing 2 pounds 12.1 ounces. He was in the NICU for almost 7 weeks at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey. Since he was born Timothy has had to go to several doctors and specialists because of his low birth weight and the complications related to his prematurity. Timothy was diagnosed with brain damage (Periventricular Leukomalacia), due to lack of oxygen, along with Cerebral Palsy in March of 2007 at Children’s Hospital Of Philadelphia.
Timothy’s CP effects every part of his body, from his hands, to his mouth to his organs. He is on several medications to control things that happen because of the Cerebral Palsy. Timothy goes to school full time, 5 days a week, at a school for disabled children. His school is part of the Ladacin Network. He also goes to physical therapy once a week at Children’s Specialized Hospital.  He sees a G.I specialist, 2 neurologists, an orthopedic surgeon, an eye specialist, a pulmonologist, an allergist, an ENT specialist and a dermatologist. He sees these doctors for regular checkups and when he is sick, which has been quite a bit this year. He is also seen by his pediatrician on a regular basis to make sure he stays healthy since his lungs are underdeveloped and he has a very weak immune system.  He has had two muscle lengthening surgeries on both of his legs to relieve some of the tightness. His legs were so tight that his hips were dislocating and he was getting bad spasms. Unfortunately with the CP this is something we will have to deal with for years to come. Timothy has also had several Botox procedures on his legs to try to help with his tone (tightness) but he didn’t really get any relief from the Botox which is why we had to do the muscle lengthening. He has equipment at home and at school that he uses to help him with his daily life. Unfortunately insurance wont cover some of these items and they are very expensive.  We will also need to do some home renovations to make our house power chair accessible. We will need to widen doorways and do other things to make life easier for Timmy.
Timothy is a very happy 10 year old child. He is very affectionate and loves to give hugs and kisses. He loves to watch videos on TV and on his I Pad. He loves to go outside on his swing and he loves to go for walks in his wheelchair. He loves going on the rides at the boardwalk and he loves going to Disney World. He also loves to swim in the ocean or a pool. Timothy is very good with technology; he is non-verbal but he is currently learning how to use his I Pad for communication. He enjoys going to school and therapy and interacting with other people. Timothy is the most amazing and happy little boy you could ever meet. When he is brought into a room everybody always smiles because even though he has been through so much in his short life, he is the happiest little boy you will ever met!
