Ephraim French Healing

This is the Ephraim we know and love: A song comes to mind so he hops up to share it on his homemade CDs. His long, loping legs hike through the back hills of Santa Barbara, Sierras, and in-town forests of Atlanta. A giver of music and books, he eagerly offers his most treasured stories and songs to friends for a special occasion or just because. A small notebook appears as he makes a meticulous note of a movie to see or a book to read.

Patient, thoughtful and kind-hearted, Ephraim had a serious stroke on October 14 while house-sitting for a friend. After 20 long hours he was discovered and required care in the ICU for one week. Now in Cottage Hospital Acute Rehab Center in Santa Barbara, he has made steady progress and is expected to transfer on November 26 to assisted living where he can continue to get full-time care and daily physical and occupational therapies.

We want to optimize Ephraim’s care and chance for improvement in these first critical six months following his stroke. As he faces this recovery period, we have found an assisted living home where we hope he will recover his strength, regain the capacity to walk and live independently. His spirit remains strong.

Ephraim has always lived a modest life. A dedicated, creative Montessori Center teacher and steadfast worker, he filled our lives with music, ideas, film critiques and gentleness without much thought to economic stability.

We have found a wonderful home-based assisted living in his old stomping grounds for $4,000/month, close enough for family and friends to regularly visit him. Based on the expertise of his medical team, we are hopeful that four months in this environment will allow maximum recovery. This care is not covered by Medicare, his only avenue for healthcare services.

This Go Fund Ephraim Healing campaign is our way of reaching out to his friends and family who want to give their support to Ephraim as he makes his way on this journey. We hold dear, as so many do, Ephraim’s smiles, open-heart and inquisitive mind and ask that you consider honoring him with whatever gift is possible for you.

With love and gratitude from his daughters,

Emma and Jhala French
