Nuestro Ideal is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission it is to contribute, promote and develop innovative ideas for the cultural, educational, and economic enrichment of the people of Latin America throughout the western hemisphere. Members of Nuestro Ideal pursue our mission through nonpartisan, nonpolitical and independent not-for-profit action.

In September of 2017 hurricane Irma and Maria passed over the Caribbean causing billions in untold damage. The impact to Puerto Rico is especially worrisome.  an island of over 3.5 million inhabitants was left without electricity.  The destruction from the hurricane affected the island’s government services, Communications, and search and rescue efforts.  The people of Puerto Rico have been left without drinkable water. The cost of the damage in property and human lives is still being tallied.

Our organization has synchronized with local leadership and grassroots organizations on the island to evaluate the needs and provide them with available resources. Nuestro Ideal will be departing to Puerto Rico to establish two “Comedores Sociales” with the assistance of the local community, near the central part of the island-Orocovis and another in Yauco.  These sites were chosen strategically, since it will enable us to reach many surrounding communities, most of whom have been destroyed after being hit by both hurricanes Irma and Maria.

In Puerto Rico, Nuestro ideal is being assisted by executive chef, Bryan Lopez Figueroa, chef Bryan has worked in several restaurants along the island such as Red Baron, Hacienda el Jibarito and Dom Pepe, where he created a menu and served thousands of people.  With the help of local volunteers our project will be able to feed over a 1000 people a day.  Over 80 local volunteers have joined us and will assit us in serving and delivering meals to the elderly and those who cannot make it out due to illness.  While working with the local community we intend to buy our produce from local farmers to help restore the area’s economy.  We are also surveying viable farmland which will be used as a sustainable source for the community kitchens

We are seeking your help today; we will be collecting all forms of contributions in the form of monetary donations, material, and equipment, as well as volunteer work.

Update: It’s been one month and many areas in Puerto Rico are still without communication and many of its residents are still suffering.

Nuestro Ideal will heading out to Puerto Rico in Mid-December to establish a “Comedor Social” with the assistance of local farmers/landowners in the central part of the island (near Orocovis)- where we count with the assistance of an executive chef and several local volunteers that will allow us to set a ”comedor” that we project will be able to feed 1000 people a day. We also count with a local resident who will be proving a truck that will allow us to deliver food to the elderly and those who cannot make it out of the destruction areas.

This site was chosen strategically, since it will allow us the ability to reach 7 different communities, most of whom have been completely destroyed after being hit by both hurricanes Irma and Maria.

Our mission is to set up a long term solution in order to assist our brothers and sisters on the Island. Our partners are all grassroots organizations and community volunteers/organizers that have join our cause in Puerto Rico.

We will also be looking to work and buyfrom the local farmers on the Island who are beginning the process of reestablishing their crops, thus assisting the resurgence of the local economy.

As always, we invite you to donate and help us fulfill our mission.

Por la Unión Latinoamericana!

Dear Friends:

I'm sure that by now you are fully aware of the crisis that our Brothers and Sisters in Puerto Rico are currently facing. As part of my organization's efforts, Nuestro Ideal has teamed up with El Maestro's Cultural Center in assisting the shipment of physical donations previously collected. I am happy to announce that very shortly we will be shipping out our first full container filled with all your gracious donations- from our community here, directly to our community in Puerto Rico.

In late November, Nuestro Ideal will also be sending out a brigade of volunteers to specifically assist those remote areas that have been completely destroyed by the storm and who desperately need our immediate impact. As always, we will be strategic on how best we can help out these communities; among our volunteers we have carpenters, community organizers and activists who are volunteering their time and effort in order to help us maximize our ability to help El Pueblo Puertorriqueño... I ask you to please consider donating to our cause today and if interested in volunteering to please contact us at lnicho@nuestroideal.org ( www.nuestroideal.org) #nuestroimpacto

We are coordinating with about 12-15 non profit orgs in NYC who are collecting donations for the people of Puerto Rico. Unfortunately, we are hearing from our people in Puerto Rico that the government is not releasing the bulk of donations until further "logistical" review.

We have contacted private companies and have ascertain a container and pricing for shipment and we hope that the restriction that every donation/cargo has to go through the government can be lifted sooner than later; we just want to get the help in the hands of our Puerto Rican brothers and sisters who need it the most as soon as possible. Remember these are American citizens not a foreign nation who needs these donations.

My organization's division (#NuestroImpacto) in particular will be sending a brigade of volunteers who will be providing direct help to those that most need it and will most likely be forgotten-we have families, friends and colleagues who will be assisting us to get through the Island (size of Connecticut) bringing this help- we have done this type of volunteer work before, last year we were in Ecuador, assisting the people when the earthquake devastated the west coast. We found this to be one of the most effective ways to reach and help those who need it the most.
