Lyndsay’s UIAA World Cup Journey

So, a few years ago I was introduced to mixed climbing and then competition ice climbing (thank you Raf). I started pushing myself to get stronger and climb more routes outside However, living in Canada means that my exposure to competitions and indoor drytooling is limited. Right now, there are no gyms that offer drytooling indoors in Calgary, let alone Canada (please correct me if i am wrong). World Cups typically take place in Europe, so even being able to try would be an expensive endeavour. 

However, a buddy of mine gave me a bit of a nudge to take the plunge and sign up for one World Cup this year. (Thank you Nick) It happens to be in Denver, CO. So it’s cheaper than flying to Europe. So, in February, I will be one of two women representing Canada at the World Cup Finals. ☺️

I started by doing a fun competition in Colorado Springs in November and was hooked. 

I do know I am not as strong as I would like to be yet, but I am working my ass off to get stronger. 

I am trying to get experience before the comp. I have been accepted to compete at The Ouray Ice Festival in 2 weeks, which means more travel. 

So, between flying to the United States three times (to minimize missing work), and finding accommodations (that will allow me to cook for my food allergies), trying to find a pair of fruit boots that fit, and trying to find solutions for training indoors, I’m asking for some financial support to help out. 

Any amount will will help go towards flights, registration, accommodations, vehicle rental, or training. 

Hopefully my experience will will help me to possibly get something going somewhere around Calgary or the Bow Valley.
