THE BACKSTORY OF LUMIÉRE

Production started with a warm and welcoming "Ia Orana" as we all landed on the island of Tahiti, followed by a ferry ride to Mo'orea.  Boards, cameras, drones, boardshorts and plenty of sunscreen would be all we need to explore the waves, ocean life, and culture of French Polynesia.  For the next month, this blue ocean paradise would become our home, and backdrop to our short film in the making.

For most of us, it was our first trip to the long dreamed of island, but Amber would be revisiting memories she's long had while growing up traveling to Tahiti with her dad, Jon Mozo.

Jon Mozo was known for his beautiful surf and ocean photography on the North Shore of Oahu.  Before passing away while shooting at Pipeline in 2005, his legacy, marked by his camera and friendly character, reached even the waves and people of Tahiti.  He would share his love for the Tahitian culture with his daughter Amber, who is currently an established and sought after photographer of the ocean herself.  The light from what Jon loved the most is what helped Amber out of the darkness of losing someone so close.  More than anywhere else, it's in the ocean of Tahiti where Amber feels she can be closest to her dad.

As Amber continues to create her own legacy of photography, she came to find the ocean had so much to give to her in spite of what it once took away. This is what we set out to capture in the short film that became known as, Lumiére, which means light in French.

Over 17 minutes long, through detailed cinematography, compelling story, and alluring soundtrack, we hope to continue sharing Amber's inspiring story to many around the world in a global film festival tour.

#LUMIEREWORLDTOUR TIME!

We loved getting your requests! We are ready and are hoping to bring Lumiére to a location near you! Locations are all dependent on area requests and festival availability. We promise we are diligently keeping track of every request. This is where your help can make all the difference.

LUMIÉRE'S CURRENT SUCCESS

We've paid entirely out of pocket for all licensing and submission fees thus far.   We are so excited about Lumiére's success as it has already been selected and awarded in the following festivals:

Australia's SurfingWorld Magazine Reelers Surf Short Film Competition: Runner-up and Viewer's Choice Award

Llanberis Adventure & Mountain Film Festival, Wales:  Finalist

San Diego Surf Film Festival: Honorable Mention

Ogden Film Festival: Audience Choice Award

In just the the first film festivals we've submitted to, we've had incredible response and created much excitement about Lumiére. We don't plan to stop here!!

LUMIERE'S FUTURE PLANS

In addition to the 4 festivals it has played in, Lumiére has been selected to be screened this summer in the Honolulu Surf Film Festival, Portugese Surf Film Festival, New York Surf Film Festival, Voices From The Water International Film Festival (India), Baja Web Fest (Mexico) and Save The Waves Film Festival (20 screenings in the U.S., Europe, Australia, and Latin America).

We have currently submitted into 21 festivals and are waiting on the selection status.

With your help, we are planning to submit into over 20 more film festivals to be screened in 2017-18.  That's over 45 film festivals!

HOW YOUR FUNDS WILL BE USED

In order for Lumiére to play in film festivals, our biggest costs include music licensing, film festival fees, and travel.

More than just visuals, we believe half of the story is felt in the music being heard. This is why we didn't cut short with just any soundtrack, even if it came with a price. To acquire music licensing rights to be shown at film festivals for 2 years, it will cost $6,000.  The more money we can raise for music licensing, the more rights we have to show it to a larger public audience.

During this time, and while the film is current, we are submitting into over 50 film festivals around the world.

Those who host film festivals require a submission fee which allows for our film to be recognized and screened in front of a global audience. Submission fees will cost $1,000.

As Lumiére is selected, the festival director's request our representation to present our film as well take questions from the audience.  In-person representation also increases our chances of being awarded and further shown at future festivals.  We can also be there to meet you!  We know it isn't possible to be at every film festival, but we hope to be present at a select few festivals in order to represent Lumiére.  Anticipated traveling costs will be $3,000.

HOW SOON WE NEED FUNDING

Most film festivals only select film produced within the year of being screened.  This means Lumiére only has a small window of opportunity to be in circuit.  Film Festival deadlines approach every passing week.  We need funding TODAY.

WHAT YOUR DONATIONS MEAN TO US

This production was all done for free
.  No one was compensated.  Production of Lumiére was motivated by Amber's inspiring story and desire to bring that to life through film.  Months of planning, hundreds of hours behind the lens, writing and editing have all gone into the production of Lumiére.  Our biggest pay off is seeing Lumiére being shared to people all around the world.

Film festivals not only provide a great platform to share Amber's story, but to showcase our work as artists to the industry.  Your donations and sharing this link will provide us an INVALUABLE platform for exposure and opportunity.
