Lulu's Dancing Dream

Donation protected
Lulu is my beautiful niece who lives in Hermanus, South Africa.

When she was born prematurely, one of a twin, she weighed 1.9 pounds and was not expected to survive through the night.  Her birth mother was sick and unable to take care of her, and that’s how she became part of our family.  Since that day she has not only survived but thrived in every way, and she has weaved her way into the hearts of all who know her.

She is now 12 years old. Against all odds she has been offered an amazing and rare opportunity to attend the Summer School of Excellence at the American Academy of Ballet in New York this summer!  Her dance teacher took her class to audition for them in Cape Town just for the experience and she was accepted!  The director said he saw enormous potential in her!

This is so very exciting and Lulu was so happy just to be accepted.  However, the AAB does not cover the costs and it is pretty pricey - especially in South African currency!

Lulu is truly a gift from the Lord to our family and she is amazing in every way.  She is kind, smart and beautiful and just a little bit sassy :) She has always loved to dance from the time she could walk and boy does she have the moves! We would love to help to make this happen for her and give her this amazing opportunity and experience.

Please consider joining us on this journey either by contributing and/or by sharing this with your friends and family.   #lulusdancingdream

The costs include fees for a 2 week program at the AAB, flights, accommodation in a nearby hotel, and food for Lulu and her Mom, Angie.  We'd love to raise this money before the end of April so they will be able to make the decisions and bookings in time.

Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Most blessed Auntie.

Here is her more of her story from my sister Angie, Lulu's Mom :

"I received a phone call on the 13 August 2006 from a social worker saying they had a new born baby that needed placement at the place of safety I was running. Her twin brother had died at birth, she weighed only 900g (less than 2 pounds), there were no incubators or life support equipment available and we were informed that she would not survive the night.

A few hours later a nurse arrived on the doorstep holding a blanket, it was only after she placed the blanket in my arms that I realized there was a body in it.  A very small one.

The pediatrician that saw her within an hour confirmed the fact that her lungs were too weak to sustain life and that we should just hold her and wait.

I called my husband and he said I should  bring her home, as I drove into our yard my three children and my husband were waiting and as I placed that blanket with that little body in the middle of them all each one of us fell deeply in love.

My daughter and I took turns keeping her skin against ours and we waited out the night. She was still breathing in the morning.

We took her back to the pediatrician, he was shocked and very surprised that she had survived the night, and said we should just keep on doing what we were doing. This was when we realized that this small little child was fighting for her life and that we would do anything to help her.

From that day she just went from strength to strength, doctor after doctor confirmed that it was a true miracle that she had survived and not only survived but she thrived.

Two years later we received her adoption papers which was just a formality as she was already the center of our family.

That beautiful 900g baby girl beat all the odds, met all her milestones and now is excelling in every way.  We learned that trusting God with the details and just loving that baby girl resulted in a miracle who we know as Lulu."
