Lucy the Golden

Courtney Bell and Travis Lauster are two amazing, God-loving, people with hearts twice the size of most people I know. 1 year ago, March of 2016, Courtney and Travis were given the news that their 8 month old Golden Retriever puppy, Gracie, had cancer. Less than 1 month later, they made the incredibly brave decision to stop the suffering of their amazing, silly, lovable baby. At the ages of 21 and 20, and being students at Slippery Rock University and Westminster University, I truly can’t imagine the stress and heartache that they both went through.

September of 2016, Court and Trav opened their hearts up once again and fell in love with their second Golden Retriever, Lucy. Lucy is energetic, friendly, playful and most importantly loved. On Monday, February 27th 2017, Lucy was accidently hit by a car. Miraculously, Lucy is alive, but in bad condition. She has a broken pelvis, foot, and shoulder. She also has a diaphragmatic hernia, which means her insides are pushed up into her chest, which makes it difficult for her to breathe. Lucy needs a major surgery and an expensive one at that, more than $5,000. As of right now, Lucy won’t eat/drink and isn’t strong enough to go through such a major surgery. Tonight (3/1/17), she will be taken to a trauma specialist that will help her body grow stronger until she’s ready for the surgery. “I can’t lose another one of my girls”, was the text I received Monday night from Courtney. Please help these loving, strong individuals obtain the care that Lucy desperately needs. Any amount is so appreciated in this time of need.
