LSU CUPSI Team
Donation protected
LSU's CUPSI team is a 4 member team of queer, gender non-comforming femmes. The team features Brittany Marshall (20), Jazmyne Smith (18), Jolie Gilbert (19), and Shannon Groll (24). Together, we want to travel to Chicago to represent the voice of Baton Rouge. We have worked together the past three months creating quality pieces that not only represent our identites, but give voice to communities that are often silenced. Brittany and Jolie share the title of Baton Rouge's inaugural Youth Poet Laureates. They will be releasing their debut books this coming spring. Jazmyne and Jolie competed with the fifth ranked Forward Arts All Stars in 2016. Shannon and Brittany will be competing with the 2017 Eclectic Truth National Poetry Slam team. This group competed in Austin at the Southwest Regional Slam where they placed fourth. By donating to this GoFundMe, you will be giving four young women the opportunity to represent their community and LSU. We have been approved to instruct workshops at CUPSI on grieving, identity, and composing books of poetry. We want to go to CUPSI and share our work and ideas with students and poets from all over the country. Our registration is covered. We need money to fund our lodging and transportation in Chicago. With the funds raised, we plan to get lodging as close to the university as possible to cut back on other costs(gas, rental cars, etc), as well as plane tickets.
