Help Carolina refugees on the brink

Tax deductible

Having escaped violence, persecution, and even torture in their homelands, refugees face a whole new set of challenges upon their arrival in the U.S.  They may spend months on the brink of hunger and homelessness as they struggle in a new land, with a new language, new customs, and new expectations.

Starting over is not easy. It requires hard work, perseverance, and resilience. Fortunately, these are qualities that describe our refugees.

Since 1976 Lutheran Services Carolinas has welcomed nearly 12,000 people from around the world. We do not do it alone. Working with volunteers and local faith organizations, we help refugees start new lives in a new country.

The key to success in the U.S. is self-sufficiency.  About 70 percent of refugees we resettle are able to find employment and reach self-sufficiency within six months — an extraordinary accomplishment in light of the tragedies they've endured.

Please help us to continue to welcome refugees through services that will protect and support them as they build new lives.  LSC is in need of emergency funds to continue the operation of our resettlement programs — programs that continue to serve the refugees after their arrival. In addition to funding staff, your gift will enable us to pay for things like:

Rent, food, and utilities — While refugees receive some government subsidies to help them get started, deposits, rent, and utility costs quickly deplete those funds until a regular paycheck can meet those expenses.

Hygiene and cleaning supplies —These basic supplies simply are not affordable for refugee families on the brink of eviction, hunger, or job loss. Your gift can help.

Employment services — Refugees depend upon staff to help them navigate the complicated process of finding employment and establishing  economic self-sufficiency while overcoming cultural, educational, and language barriers. Your gift will enable those services to continue.

Transportation — Imagine a life without access to transportation. That obstacle can be overcome with the bicycle or bus pass that your gift can buy.

Medical needs —Health care expenses are challenging for everyone, including refugees. Your contributions will help them access the medical treatments they need in order to achieve physical, emotional, and mental well-being.

These are just a few of the many ways in which your gift could be used. We will use your gift where needed most
and it will always be used to benefit the refugees resettled by LSC.

We proudly walk together with these individuals from around the world toward hope and a better future.

Please join us in our mission of compassion. Your support is needed so that they can enjoy the same freedoms that we as Americans too often take for granted. Give today.
