Learning Center Hurricane Recovery

Hi and thank you for your interest in helping us. Little People's Learning Center is a small nursery, pre-school and kindergarten started by Daphne Maynard 30 years ago. Our motto is "Learning with Love". Based on St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, it has been an important part of our small island community for decades.
This September, the Virgin Islands was hit by 2 devastating Category 5 hurricanes. The first one, Irma, tore off almost the entire roof of our main building. As we were all under curfew and unable to travel safely around the island, little could be done right away. Then came the second hurricane. Although the winds weren't as strong on St. Thomas, the rain from Maria was torrential. Without a roof, pretty much everything that was left in our building after the first hurricane was destroyed by the rain from the second hurricane.
But we are strong and determined! We've already opened in a temporary location and welcomed back about 1/2 of our students (22 so far).
We need your help. We had no insurance (after past hurricanes, insurance premiums were out of our reach). It will take about $25,000 to complete the rebuilding of our roof, replace the ceiling, rewire the building and replace the lights and fans. We'll need about $15,000 to replace our furniture, books, computers, toys, play stations, rugs, and everything else that make for a great early learning center.
