Sometimes we get reminded how precious life is! Unfortunately sometimes it takes shattering news to realise just how precious.

My brother Mark and his gorgeous wife Naomi are high school sweet hearts. Left school, got married and worked hard to get their dream jobs. Mark a policeman and Naomi a nurse. Both love working with people and relish their respected roles  in their local Hamilton community by helping others.

They are blessed with 4 beautiful children. Abbey 16, Riley 13 and 6 year old twins, Matilda and Hamish.  Life was amazing for them!  Their little family works hard and like all of us, hold aspirations of many adventures together as a family in the future.

However they have just recieved the crushing news that no family ever wants to receive.  Naomi, 42, has been diagnosed with terminal liver cancer.

After a whirlwind of appointments and testing and a recent visit to Peter Mac, Naomi has been told there is no viable treatment for her. They held onto the hope that a Trial Treatment may have prolonged life for her but DNA results have shown she is not compatible.  Naomi will now undergo Auto Immune Therapy in Warrnambool in the hope to sustain liver function and give Naomi the best chance to spend time with her family.

This sudden and heart breaking news for the family has left us all devastated.  While they process what life is about to become for them, I'm on a quest to ease some of the daily financial pressure life for a family of 6 brings.

After spending the afternoon sobbing together today it was very clear to me of one thing, Naomi adores Mark and her children.  We spoke about how time is precious and like all mothers, her only wish is to spend the little time she has left with her family creating memories.

This is where I need this amazing community of ours to rally.  I ask you all for a huge favour. If you are able to offer financial support, could you please donate towards supporting Mark, Naomi and their children so the stress of finances is eased and they can focus on their little family.

While we are all feeling helpless to change the diagnosis we can give them the greatest gift of all, the freedom to make memories together.

Every little bit helps....... this gorgeous family is going to need all the love and support we can offer them at this time in their life..... please

A message from Mark....
Naomi and I would like to express our heart felt thanks to everyone that has got behind us and shown their support to our family in our time of need. The support has come from neighbours, friends, family, the kids school friends / teachers and complete strangers. The support has come in all forms from messages of support and love, offers of food/meals, helping out with the kids and of course the generous financial assistance stemming from the Go Fund Me page.

I can’t express enough how much all of this support has made our immediate future easier to face. Naomi’s immediate road ahead is unclear and the treatments available for her type of cancer are fairly limited but she’s ready to battle on no matter which way it takes her. She is able to stay strong just knowing the wider community is in her corner ready to help out when the time arises. We’ve learnt a lot in the last 12 months about cancer, treatments, how it can metastasize in other areas away from the primary site and all the complications that come with it.

With Naomi’s journey it started in her eye as an ocular melanoma (first symptom was blurry vision in her left eye) but we were told from day 1 that the liver and other primary organs are in danger of becoming secondary sites, so it’s always been on our minds. Initial routine tests showed clear results but the most recent one was the one that has sparked the latest concerns. Naomi still feels well, doesn’t show any symptoms (ran 10km 2 days after being told) and the blood test has shown that her liver is still functioning as it should be for now. If it wasn’t for the routine scans and tests then she would have no idea that the ocular melanoma had spread to her liver. All cancers are different and react to different treatments in different ways but we have been guided by some fantastic doctors and specialists and will take what ever treatment that they suggest.

Many have also asked why a transplant isn’t being considered - in short...transplants aren’t an option when the cancer is metastasised in the liver from another primary source. They generally only give transplants to Hepatitis patients and patients with pyrosis of the liver, not cancer patients. For those that are interested in ocular melanoma this website explains pretty closely on what’s going on and whats ahead.

It may help you to understand where things are at and what is to be expected.

Once again, THANKYOU to everyone around us that has got involved in anyway shape or form to make our lives that bit easier. I will be forever indebted to you all we are truely humbled by your support ❤️
