Love for Lucy:
Kind, thoughtful, compassionate, full of life and loving are words which run through my head when I think of Lucy Ann. As many of you already know, life changed forever for the Koehn family in October.
At the young age of 9 years old, Lucy was diagnosed with a very rare, aggressive cancer called Malignant Myoepithelioma Soft Tissues High Grade Sarcoma - Carcinoma.
Before we dive into Lucy’s story, let me tell you a little about this incredible family. If you spend any amount of time with the Koehns you will quickly realize Tim and Nikki live for their children. Hayden is Lucy’s older brother. Hayden and Lucy have a bond unlike any other. Their relationship is filled with love, laughter, support and friendship. Saying Lucy is the light and joy of her family’s lives is quite an understatement.
As I mentioned, this amazing family’s lives changed forever in October. On October 15th, 2018 while Lucy was getting ready for school, Nikki noticed a large lump on her back. As any mother would be, Nikki was concerned and took Lucy to the doctor. The local clinic sent Lucy to Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, MN where it was confirmed that the lump was indeed a tumor.
Since mid-October Lucy has undergone five surgeries, four rounds of chemotherapy and 25 proton beam radiation treatments. She has also been through many tests and scans and has maintained a positive and upbeat attitude. Lucy is brave, strong and determined.
This fundraiser was created to help ease the financial burden on the Koehn family as they incur medical, travel and lodging costs certain to come with Lucy’s appointments and treatments.
This little girl has had to grow up way to quickly over the past month. She has had to hear and digest words which no nine year old should ever to have to comprehend. Lucy’s life has changed in a blink of an eye, yet she continues to spread light, love and joy. Let’s show her the same in return!
