Lola brings joy to everyone around her. Her tenderness and love shine through every wave, smile and cuddle she gives.
Unfortunately, Lola has had three hospital stays in the last four months. Knowing how costly these visits can be, even after insurance, I have been looking for a way to help my dear friend Missy Tolman, who is an amazing woman, and the most caring mother Lola could have been blessed to have.
Because of Lola’s diagnosis of Down syndrome, she is more susceptible to illnesses, and even a common cold could put her in the hospital. This has happened to Lola three times and it turned into pneumonia, bronchiolitis , and rhinovirus. Lola has low muscle tone and is not able to cough hard enough to get the mucus out of her lungs so it settles in there and collects bacteria which turns into more dangerous illnesses. The last time she was in the hospital she was also diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension, which is a chronic disorder that will likely require oxygen for the rest of her life. She was also diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea, which will either require surgery, medications, or additional oxygen.
Lola is currently on oxygen. Her most recent stay was over $37,000 alone. After insurance her medical bills are at about $8000.
We don’t expect to reach $8000, but at this point, I know anything will help and will be appreciated.
