Love For Jordyn Walker- 2017

July 2017
My 14 yo beautiful niece Jordyn came on vacation with us in NC for a few weeks.  While she was here she started getting sick with what we thought was a stomach virus after letting it run its course she started to have symptoms that we then went to urgent care on July 4th.  She was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis and sent home with meds and we thought she would be on the mend.  July 5th she was getting worse more symptoms even a runny nose, teeth pain and dehydrated.   So I took her to the ER.  In the ER they agreed with the diagnosis and gave her meds though the IV's as well as IV's to hydrate her.  To confirm the Ulcerative Colitis and see the severity they ordered her a CT scan with iodine contrast.  Shortly after she started showing signs of a reaction swollen eye and a very light bloody nose.  These symptoms they thought was part of the sinus infection she came in with.  The Dr. told me to give her Benadryl and Tylenol for the sinus infection and stated that the medications they were sending her home with would help treat that as well as the Colitis.  After being home her symptoms of an allergic reaction were evident.  Her face was swelling and both eyes could barley open.  We went back to the ER.  Soon her symptoms were getting worse even with steriods so they transported her to New Hanover Regional Children's Hospital.  At this point her face was swelling  turning black and blue, her throat was closing up and her nose bleed was uncontrollable.   Jordyn was then rushed to ICU.  With in minutes they had a team of Dr.'s and nurses working on her.  They had to control the swelling and control the bleeding (from all mucus membranes).  From the timing the Dr.'s seem to thing she had an allergic reaction to the CT Contrast (Iodine).   Over the next few hours they stabilized her.  The longest few hours.  Jordyn has now been in ICU for days.  Many Medical Specialists have been in to treat her.   They do have her stable but we have been told to expect her to be in ICU for at least another week.  Also to expect her to be in the hospital for at least two weeks.  Jordyn has been having other reactions to the treatment and her swelling goes up and down.  She has been in extreem pain and has not been able to sleep for days.  Having this happen is difficult enough, but to be so far from home, family and friends have made it more difficult.  Jordyn has been the pillar of strength thru all of this and even at her worst she is worried about others.  She has a long road ahead of her.    Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.
