Dominica Calibishie Small Business

Donation protected
We have included some pictures of before Hurricane Maria hit Calibishie and the rest of Dominica with a Cat 5. Kim and I have spent 4 January’s in Calibishie. We fell in love with the island and its people. We made lasting friendships with many local families. The people of Calibishie always are willing to help each other. They are strong resilient people. Dominica has not only been affected by Maria but in 2015 they suffered the impact of another Hurricane Erika. Kim and I want to help Calibishie and the people we now call our friends. What can we do is the question that we have dealt with? They have enriched our life and we want to give something back.

We decided to do something to help the great Small Business People we met while there.

Help them get back up and running. Not in the form of donations but hiring them to provide services to other members of their village. Uplifting everyone a little bit and continue to help jump start the economy

It may be many many months before Calibishie has electricity and running water in their homes. Dominica needs tourist dollars to keep the economy going but sadly the tourist will not be visiting Dominica anytime soon. Since the tourist will not be traveling to Dominica we feel our idea will help.

Our idea is simple, we will give these donations to
some of the great small entrepreneurs in Calibishie
who we have met over the last few years of visits. They
will provide their services for that value to help their
community. Our view, and we hope you share it, is
the best way to help this village is to have the aid
coming from within and empowering the local people
We have picked 5 people we think will do well in their
regular endeavours to multiply our donations

An excellent local tour guide will be hired
to deliver our donation value in driving locals around as they may need to buy building supplies to rebuild their home, others may need transportation to buy groceries, to deliver fresh water or to attend medical appointments.. Our idea will help small business tour guide. Helps his small business
until things recover and aids locals in
their needs.
A small local bar and a small
local eatery will be hired to provide some
free meals and a free music night. People
will need music and fun to keep their
spirit alive

Kim and I will insure that this money goes
to empower the local small entrepreneur, so the
benefits they provide to their community
will not be another victim of the storm.
Purchasing their services for the
benefit of the village.
Another beneficiary will be local
musician/restauranteur plus well known
cook

Kim and I have been self employed for
most of our lives. Like everyone we have
had our share of misfortune and disaster.
Nothing of this tone. But we
know the best way of help in these
situations is for people to use and
purchase our services. This would keep us
and others working. So this will be a
direct donation to purchase local services.
Your donation will
help the fabulous people of Calibishie

We are aiming to give each of them 1000 dollars to do something for their community. We sent some money down on Dec12  and another alottment when we go Feb 14.

Calibishie, is almost as far away from the capitol city of Roseau as possible and relief is especially difficult to get there.
Please do what you can. No donation is too small or too big.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this and to consider the fabulous people of Dominica. This is one very small direct step to help a few people on this ravaged island.

One love

Kim and David
