Love Trumps Hate Carlisle

On February 17th a hateful large sign was hung across the street from the West Street AME Zion Church in Carlisle, PA. The sign declares the homeowner's support for President Donald Trump, imprisoning Secretary Hillary Clinton, and sending President Barrack Obama to the guillotine. Additionally the sign owner wrote that he was a Presbyterian, landowner, and strong man. It is a vile sign and has no place hanging on any home in our great community, but it is especially insulting because it hangs across the street from the West Street AME Zion Church, a historically Black church.
Having freedom of speech in our country means sometimes we have to read, hear, and see expressions of thought that don't always reflect our worldview or personal values. However it doesn't mean we're paralyzed or powerless to respond. We can send a much more powerful message of love by showing an out pouring of support for the West Street AME Zion Church and it's congregation. While money cannot solve the problem of this hateful sign, it can remind the congregation that they are not alone, and we as a community stand in solidarity with them.
