I took our princess, Melody, to Urgent Care in Canton on Saturday because she was running high fevers, coughing a lot, not eating and not drinking much.
The doctor called a helicopter to life-flight her to Atlanta from the Urgent Care. She is that sick.. They said that she would have just "gave up" trying to breathe before too long because it was too much on her little lungs, and she couldn't compensate for it anymore. They said it's a good thing that we brought her in when we did.
We've been at Scottish Rite in Atlanta for 4 days now. Melody is in the PICU (Pediatric ICU); she has RSV and pneumonia. She's on high flow oxygen and has a feeding tube.
We aren't sure how long she'll have to be here, but we do know she'll be in ICU for at least 7-10 days before moving to another floor.
With Melody having Downs Syndrome, it'll likely take her longer to recover from this because she has more narrow airways than those of a typical child.
We don't tell people of our financial situation much, but we were already struggling a little with money before our poor baby got sick. We have both had to miss work to be here with her, so we're really going to be struggling that much more with bills, groceries, etc. We also have to have gas to get back and forth here when we do have to go back home, food to eat while we're here, and the necessities of being away from home and in the hospital.
I know everybody has their own struggles as well, and I hate to ask anybody for anything at all, especially money.
If anybody feels led to give us a love offering we would greatly appreciate it. Or if anyone would like to bring diapers for Melody (CHOA carries Huggies and she's allergic to them), or bring some food by, or whatever it is you could help with, we would be very thankful.
If you're in a financial stress like we are and aren't in a position to give, we understand that 100% and just ask that you offer your prayers, because our princess sure needs them.
I want to say thank you in advance, and thank you to everyone who has already pitched in to help us with our baby girl and hospital stay. There has been an outpouring of love & prayers from family and friends, and we're blessed to have such amazing people in our corner. We love you all so much!
