Louise & Juliet Weston Need Help

Donation protected
I am truly embarrassed to say this, but we need financial help to get ourselves and our belongings from Henderson, NV to Knoxville, TN where there is a job for my daughter, Juliet. We -- Juliet, myself and our cats, Milo and Rory -- only have a single week to pull this together.

In the last month, we have been staying with wonderful friends in Nevada with the expectation that we would find work and an apartment here. Unfortunately, for all involved, nothing worked out as planned. All our savings, as well as a generous gift, was spent moving here when we were slowed first by massive storms.  Then, midway to our destination our car began making funny noises, and after some terrible roads, the suspension broke. It has been repaired to be “safe,” but our car is not in the same shape it was when we began this journey.

We will be deeply grateful for any donation you can make no matter how small. Please, feel no obligation to contribute.  We don’t want to lose friends over this, but if you can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Backstory

When I was ill with cancer a few years ago, Juliet kept us going for three and a half years, working 50 hours a week at a physically challenging and stress-filled job. Day after day, she went in to work to keep us both afloat, when I could barely walk across the room. She made sure I had a home, food and everything I needed. There are no words for the gratitude I feel for Juliet, and I will do everything in my power to get help us get back on our feet.

Last summer, we moved her pregnant sister in with us, whose partner remained behind to work. After two months of bedrest, she lost the baby. Broken hearted, we bonded together and moved forward. All was going well. We -- Juliet, I, her sister and her sister’s partner -- were finally getting ahead again. Then, last February, we were given our 30 days’ notice on our rented house. Through no fault of our own, we had to leave. The owner had been renovating the house for the three years we lived there, and he wanted to live in it as soon as possible. We scrambled for a place to go. Through a gamut of false starts, mishaps and just plain bad luck, along with a few miracles, we landed here.

Our entire journey from Maryland to Nevada was chronicled on my blog alexlweston.com, Sometimes Life Hands You Lemons. Incidently, Alex is my 'nom de plume.'

Where will the money be spent?

The money raised will go to pay for gas, transportation of our personal belongings and two nights at an inexpensive hotel/motel on our way to Knoxville, TN from Henderson, NV. We know we will most likely have to sacrifice many of our belongings and all of our furniture. Because of the damage to the car, we cannot pull a trailer again. A truck with the car in tow, with gas and hotel would run in the area of $2300 ($1500 for the truck and car trailer, $600 for gas and $200 for hotel & food). Otherwise, we will be shipping what belongings we can via Greyhound Express, which was the least expensive option, and driving ourselves in our car with our most important belongings and the two cats.
