This is our third year raising money for Childhood Cancer. You guys know we like to spread the love and this year will be no different-- but we're extra ambitious this year, and hope we can reach a lot of children. :)
1--- Because we love smiles, and these kids deserve 'em, we're going to allocate one portion to the Jessie Rees Foundation to send "Joy Jars" full of toys to kids who are currently in the hospital. We did this the last time, and they were so grateful for our help- we touched a lot of young lives and we plan to do that once again. For those who don't know, Jessie Joy Rees lost her battle to Pediatric Cancer and her family started a foundation in her honor, doing what she loved- sending "Joy Jars" to kids to encourage them to "NEVER EVER GIVE UP"- a phrase she coined that is used widely today: "NEGU". We love the mission, and can't wait to help out again.
2--- We will also be sending a portion to Native Angels Camp Hope & Holistic Retreat (find them on Facebook). My husband made the final decision here- we love the underdog and people who just want to help people. When Angel had Stage 4 MMMT Uterine Carcinosarcoma, and was given 3 weeks to live, she took matters into her own hands, tapped into her Native American roots, and healed herself from the inside out. Now 4 years cancer free, she and her husband have been working diligently on building and creating a camp for children with cancer and other disabilities. Here, they will stay free of charge at Camp Hope and learn about nutrition, growing organic fruits and vegetables that heal the body, making detoxifying juices that attack cancer, BE in nature, meditate and get all the beautiful medicine that the good earth provides, to aid in their treatment. Angel and Mikael did a wonderful job of spreading the money we donated last time, and we know they will again- they are on the home stretch of completing and opening camp-- again, check them out- we are so honored to have been a part of their mission. Angel is living proof that when you're told there's "no hope", there's STILL hope... <3
3--- I think a lot of you know that we fully support and have seen the miracles first hand, of cannabis treating cancer- and thankfully, the medical industry is starting to warm up to that. We have teamed up with my friend, Garyn Angel, CEO of Magical Butter, in hopes of helping some families and/or organizations in continuing in that direction. Over the years, we've watched Garyn do amazing work and we are going to help. One quote of his from an interview, when he was asked where he gets inspiration: "In the cannabis industry, inspiring stories surround you! The most inspiring of them are those children and adults who are diagnosed terminally ill and seeing them get a second chance at a happier and healthier life with cannabis. Working closely with pediatric cannabis therapy has given me insight into the behind-the-scenes struggles these parents and children face. Their stories are amazing and inspire my activism." Mine too- and we're going to get some machines out to those who need them! <3
4--- Lastly, we always like to help a child/family....... and in this case, it's our friend, Cassandra. She made national news when she and her Mom refused chemotherapy in persuit of other treatments, and they ultimately wound up in the courts pleading their case- I will share that full story on my Facebook page in the near future. In the end, the court ruled that she was not able to make that decision because she was a minor, and she had to undergo chemo in the hospital with a round-the-clock guard at her door- WITHOUT HER MOM. Her cancer has since returned and she is back in treatment with no insurance. Although her boss is really good about letting her work when she's feeling up to it, it's still not enough. We'd like to help pitch in with her bills. She's too young to have the stress of this financial burden on top of what she's going through.
