The Lou Baldizzi recovery fund is being set up as a result of significant injuries suffered after being involved in a hit-skip accident while riding his Harley on July 16th, 2016. While my brother, Lou is not the type of person to ask for help, he needs all the assistance he can as he travels this long difficult road of recovery.
A reckless driver in a large car pulled into oncoming traffic colliding into Lou as he was on his motorcycle. The driver then drove off leaving a mangled bike and my brother in the road with horrific injuries, including critical surgery necessary to save his right leg. The police are doing what they can but it has been nearly 6 weeks with no arrest or charges.
Lou faced a greater than 80% chance of losing his right leg prior to surgery. We are thankful he is alive and grateful to the surgeons. Concerns of healing issues show that he will require more surgeries in the near future.
Now in an extensive healing period, Lou will be out of work for an undetermined amount of time. With no time off remaining or disability insurance, he is unable to fully support himself, his home, or his family.
In addition to many physical and occupational therapies he is having to undergo, his home needs required modifications to meet safety mandates of a wheelchair.
Lou is a loving and devoted father of two young sons. He is a hardworking, well-respected city mechanic by trade, keeping the emergency and service vehicles on the road for the city where he serves. My brother is a very kind generous friend to many.
